The Willow School (formerly Lusher Charter School), an “A” rated public school located in Uptown New Orleans and the #1 K-12 public school in Louisiana, has an award-winning, arts-integrated, inquiry-based approach to education.

Serving more than 2,000 students in its three historic campuses, The Willow School’s renowned academic program attracts students from every neighborhood in New Orleans. It engages students and challenges them to think critically, analytically and creatively. With the recent addition of a new, separate middle school campus, Willow is now able to offer more students the benefit of a Willow education.

Willow offers a unique program that inspires imagination and intellectual curiosity. A National Blue Ribbon School in partnership with Tulane University, Willow provides an environment which fosters the social-emotional development of young adults and values the unique combination of talents and interests in each of our students.

Our K-12 program offers students the opportunity to explore a diverse array of art forms that expand as students grow. As one of the first schools in the country to embrace Arts Integration, our program has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for using arts to build culture and enhance learning.

Students may choose an area of concentration in Humanities/Communications or Math/Science/Engineering. Beginning with introductory Engineering classes in the Lower School, options expand to include Engineering, Biomedical Science and AP courses in all sciences. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) offers high school engineering and biomedical science programs that give students college preparation for technical fields and encourage them to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math (STEAM). State-of-the-art science laboratories support academic excellence.

While in high school, Willow juniors and seniors may enroll in free college courses at Tulane University, earning valuable credits for their future college transcript. Qualifying Willow seniors are guaranteed admission to Tulane’s freshman class.

Willow is an Exemplary School designated by the Arts Schools Network and earned a Gold Medal in U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of “Best High Schools” in the country. Last year’s 173 graduates earned in excess of $40 million in merit-based scholarships and matriculated to colleges and universities including Boston University, Xavier University, University of Pennsylvania, Yale University and New York University.

Among its numerous extracurricular offerings, Willow supports an outstanding athletic program in grades 5-12. With nearly 30 teams, the school’s robust athletics program provides a great opportunity for students to engage with the community beyond the classroom. They pursue their personal athletic interests while developing skills in team work, body conditioning, time management, collaboration, and good sportsmanship.
